What's New in the Voice Department?
5 YEAR BM-MM DEGREES AVAILABLE
Qualified Peabody undergraduates may complete an MM degree with one additional year of study after completion of four years of study in the BM degree program. The selection process takes place in the junior year and includes academic and performance requirements. Students selected for the program maintain their initial financial assistance levels throughout the five years of study.
VOCAL CHAMBER MUSIC CLASSES
One of the great things about the Peabody experience is the "team teaching" approach which the voice department has embraced in numerous ways. The vocal chamber music course provides a special opportunity for collaboration with Peabody student composers and performers from other areas. It is coached by conservatory faculty who are among the world's great chamber musicians. Students in this course explore and perform repertoire of the eighteenth, nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first centuries. Assigned teachers in voice are William Sharp and John Shirley-Quirk.
VOCAL ACCOMPANYING DEGREE
Chaired by Eileen Cornett, vocalists and pianists study repertoire of several centuries and of every style. Working together and discovering the means of collaboration, articulation differences, language difficulties, makes this a must-do course for pianists who wish to work with singers in their careers.
MM IN PERFORMANCE/PEDAGOGY FOR VOICE
Indiviuals accepted in the MM in voice with pedagogy emphasis will be assigned a three-person advisory committee. Students will develop expertise in the art of teaching as well as performing. The advantages include access to pedagogical mentors and a year of internship which are only available to students in the pedagogy program. Current faculty assigned to teaching pedagogy are Dr. Stanley Cornett and Dr. Steven Rainbolt.
