DAVID DIEHL BM2
Pursuing a B. M. in Vocal Performance, David Diehl is a baritone in his first year of studies at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University where he studies with Mr. John Shirley-Quirk. Born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, David began singing at the age of four in the children’s choir at Lancaster’s First United Methodist Church. David began performing publicly at age ten, singing the role of Kurt in “The Sound of Music” at the Fulton Opera House. During high school David was a member of three District Choirs, three Regional Choirs, and two All-State Choirs hosted by the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association. In the summer of 2007 David was selected to attend the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts where he studied voice with Ms. Diana Walters. David currently sings with the choir at Old St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Baltimore, MD and is a member of the Peabody Singers.
NICHOLAS FICHTER BM TRANSFER
Tenor Nicholas Fichter is a young singer with over 30 credits on stage, in concerts, operas and in musicals. Some notable roles Mr. Fichter has played on the musical theatre stage are “Amos” in Chicago, “Pontius Pilate” in Jesus Christ Superstar, and “Che” in Evita. Operatic roles include El Dancaïro in Carmen and Don Curzio in Le Nozze di Figaro, both for Washington East Opera, Mathurin in L’Ivrogne Corrige and Blind/Frosch in Die Fledermaus, both with the Peabody Opera Theatre, as well as Count Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with Chesapeake Chamber Opera. An active soloist, Mr. Fichter has performed with the Mid-Columbia Mastersingers as the soloist in Five Mystical Songs by Vaughan-Williams; with the Oregon East Symphony as the tenor solo in the Mass in c Minor by Mozart; as the tenor solo in Handel’s Messiah, with both the Oregon East Symphony and Central United Protestant Church in Richland, WA; and with the Mid-Columbia Symphony in the West Side Story Suites by Bernstein. He has also been featured as a guest soloist at Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA and the Oregon East Symphony, singing the tenor solo in Requiem in d Minor by Mozart. Mr. Fichter has performed under such esteemed conductors as Dr. Robert Bode, Kenneth Woods, Dean Williamson and Gunther Schuller. In the fall of 2009, Mr. Fichter began his Bachelor’s degree studies at the Peabody Institute at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, in the studio of John Shirley-Quirk. In 2010, Mr. Fichter joined the professional choir at Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC. In the spring of 2011, Mr. Fichter will be featured as the tenor soloist in the Requiem in d Minor by Mozart with the Peabody Concert Orchestra, Peabody Singers and Peabody-Hopkins Chorus, as well as singing two roles in Les Mamelles de Tiresias with the Peabody Opera Theatre.
MATTHEW SULLIVAN BM2
Matthew Sullivan is a baritone who makes his home in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania where he attended Red Land Senior High School. At Red Land, Matthew was an active performer, partipating in the school's stage productions (most notably as Jean Valjean in their production of Les Misérables) and the school's choirs, including many PMEA honors festivals. At Red Land, Matthew studied music with John Devorick, and voice privately with Tara Bowers-Savarino.
Matthew currently attends The Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University as a voice major in the studio of esteemed bass-baritone John Shirley-Quirk. In addition to studying voice, Matthew sings in the Peabody Singers and Renaissance Ensemble, and is a minor student of piano with Lura Johnson. Matthew is also an active composer: he writes primarily art song and choral music, and regularly composes for performers at the Peabody.
