What to Bring
Moving In
Everyone’s needs are different so rather that a list of specifics, here are some points to help you plan.
Baltimore Weather – What to Wear
Baltimore has a wide variety of weather, from 80-90(F.) with high humidity in the early fall to temperatures in the single digits and a wind chill below zero in the winter month. It rains quite frequently all year round, and a snow in the winter is not unusual
The academic buildings are air conditioned during hot weather in the fall and spring, and they can feel "cold inside". Likewise, the buildings are heated in winter and may feel "hot."
For Your Room
Stereos, radios, computers, clocks, TVs, shavers, curling irons, refrigerators under 4 cubic feet, etc. are all acceptable. For safety’s sake, any electrical appliances you bring should be in good shape. Remember to bring Twin XL bed linens, blankets, pillowcases, towels, etc. The residents of each floor share common bathrooms, so remember to bring shower shoes to wear in the shower. Baltimore is a large city and has many stores to meet your needs. Your RA can provide you with information about where to go to acquire any type of item.
What Not to Bring
Please do not bring open coil heaters, cooking appliances, microwaves, air conditioners firecrackers or fireworks, candles, gasoline, kerosene (or other flammable fuels), firearms and weapons, motorcycles, mopeds, halogen pole lamps, or pets of any kind. Any item closely related to the above is forbidden in the Residence Hall. These items are prohibited because they put you and those around you at risk. If you’re not sure about bringing something, call the Residence Life Office before you pack.
