Peer Tutoring

Peabody provides free tutoring for undergraduate students who are experiencing difficulty in an academic course. The tutoring program is managed through the Office of Academic Affairs.

A successful tutoring program will depend upon a seriousness of approach from both tutors and tutees to include excellent preparation and regular attendance for each session. It is expected that tutors and tutees will adhere to the established policies to avoid jeopardizing their eligibility for continuation in the program.

Finding a Tutor

A student seeking tutoring completes a tutor request form, which must be signed by the teacher of the subject for which the student is seeking assistance. The teacher determines the amount of tutoring time needed (a maximum of 3 hours per week for a specified and limited number of weeks). The student then returns the request form to the Office of Academic Affairs and is assigned a tutor.

Becoming a Tutor

A student who wishes to be employed as a peer tutor must be recommended by a faculty member in the appropriate area of academic study. The student fills out a peer tutor recommendation form, complete with the recommending teacher’s signature, and returns it, along with the necessary employment forms, to the Office of Academic Affairs.

Once students begin tutoring, they must submit weekly time logs to the Office of Academic Affairs in order to be compensated for their work. Wages start at $7 per hour, and the number of hours per week varies depending on the schedules of the tutor and the tutee.
