Remote Access to Library Catalog and Online Resources
The Hopkins Libraries share and jointly administer an online catalog which can be accessed from any location through the internet at http://catalog.library.jhu.edu. In addition there are over 400 electronic resources which are licensed and shared by one or more of the Hopkins Libraries. All can be accessed from campus. To access the electronic databases and journals licensed for your division from off campus there are two options. One is to download the VPN (Virtual Personal Network) software available at http://www.it.jhu.edu/restricted/infosec/jhsecure/index.html. Once you open this software using your JHED ID and password, you will be allowed to remotely access these items either from the Electronic Resources page on the Friedheim Library page or through the listing of electronic resources available through the Sheridan Libraries’ homepage. The second is to visit the listing of electronic resources on the Sheridan Libraries homepage at http://hermes.mse.jhu.edu/. Use this alphabetical listing to locate and select the database you wish to use. A proxy server will automatically ask for your JHED ID and password. You do not need to download additional software, but you must access the databases from the Sheridan Libraries’ page at this time. More information on the Proxy Server may be found at http://www.library.jhu.edu/services/computing/proxyfaqs.html.
