Peabody Orchestras

The orchestral division of the Peabody Conservatory is comprised of two full symphonic orchestras. The Peabody Symphony Orchestra draws its members primarily from graduate and upper-division students of the highest level of musicianship, and performs six to seven public concert programs each season. The Peabody Concert Orchestra, whose members are drawn mainly from undergraduate students, performs six public concert programs per season.

Programming for each orchestra is designed to provide both its student musicians and the listening public with exposure to a rich and diverse repertoire, including not only standard orchestral selections, but also contemporary works, American music, and premieres of new orchestral pieces. Peabody orchestras have regularly won ASCAP Awards for the Adventuresome Programming of Contemporary Music, and Peabody competition winners, faculty, and distinguished guest artists often perform concerti with the orchestras.

Some of the information presented on these pages is designed specifically for the participating student, but the general public will also find some useful things, such as a complete listing of the current season's repertoire for each orchestra, and various concert recordings from past seasons which may be downloaded for your listening pleasure.

We hope you will make it a point to attend as many of our concert performances as you are able. The Peabody Box Office has information on ticket pricing and availability.
