Peabody Choral Ensembles

Edward Polochick, Director

The choral program at Peabody consists of the following two ensembles:

The Peabody Singers

The Peabody SIngers are a select ensemble of roughly 40-50 members chosen mainly from, though not limited to, voice majors and those non-voice majors with excellent skills and previous choral experience. The focus is on virtuosic choral literature, both a cappella and accompanied. In addition to their own performances, Peabody Singers will also be involved in performances of the Peabody-Hopkins Chorus. Peabody Singers meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m.

The Peabody-Hopkins Chorus

The Peabody-Hopkins Chorus is a large choral ensemble consisting largely of, but not limited to, non-orchestral majors fulfilling their large ensemble requirements, but also utilizing those voice majors for whom there is not enough room in Peabody Singers. This choral group focuses mainly on large choral/orchestral repertoire with occasional exposure to choral/organ literature and choral/wind/brass/percussion. Very occasional visits to large choral a cappella literature are also made. The Peabody-Hopkins Chorus meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.

Assignments to these two ensembles are based upon the results of placement auditions conducted at the beginning of the fall semester. All students with choral ensemble obligations have been assigned specific audition times, which are posted both on the web and on the chorus bulletin board. Any students who don't have choral ensemble obligations but who would like to be involved with the choral program may be assigned an audition slot by contacting the Chorus Manager, Paul Faatz, by phone at 410-659-8100, ext. 1220, or by e-mail at pfaatz1@peabody.jhu.edu. Auditions for voice majors and non-voice majors will take place on August 30 through September 1.
