Peabody Choral Ensembles

Edward Polochick, Director

The choral program at Peabody consists of the following two ensembles:

The Peabody Singers

The Peabody SIngers are a select ensemble of roughly 40-50 members chosen mainly from, though not limited to, voice majors and those non-voice majors with excellent skills and previous choral experience. The focus is on virtuosic choral literature, both a cappella and accompanied. In addition to their own performances, the Peabody Singers also participate in performances of the Peabody-Hopkins Chorus.

During the fall 2011 semester, the Peabody Singers will be rehearsing along with the Peabody-Hopkins Chorus on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30-4:30.  Starting in the spring 2012 semester, they will return to their usual M/W 2:30-4:00 schedule.

The Peabody-Hopkins Chorus

The Peabody-Hopkins Chorus is a large choral ensemble consisting primarily of Peabody Institute non-orchestral majors, advancing voice majors, and students from the Homewood Campus of the Johns Hopkins University.  The ensemble performs large-scale works from the standard choral-orchestral literature, usually in collaboration with the Peabody Singers and the Peabody Concert Orchestra, as well as occasional a cappella works.

During the fall 2011 semester, the Peabody-Hopkins Chorus will be rehearsing along with the Peabody Singers on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30-4:30.  Starting in the spring 2012 semester, they will return to their usual M/W 4:30-6:00 schedule.

Assignments to these two ensembles are based upon the results of placement auditions conducted at the beginning of the fall semester. All students with choral ensemble obligations have been assigned specific audition times, which are posted both on the web and on the chorus bulletin board. Any students who don't have choral ensemble obligations but who would like to be involved with the choral program may be assigned an audition slot by contacting the Chorus Manager, Paul Faatz, by phone at 410-234-4510 or by e-mail at pfaatz1@peabody.jhu.edu.
