Doctor of Musical Arts

The DMA program at Peabody has equal emphasis on academics and performance. Some of the majors have curricula with several options. Voice and Piano majors, for instance, can choose between the dissertation track, and the performance track. Piano has a curriculum emphasizing collaborative playing (Ensemble Arts). Voice has one emphasizing pedagogy. Other options in other majors are already listed, or can be arranged.

No matter what track is chosen, anyone with a DMA is expected to be a scholar, so successful applicants must demonstrate ability in scholarly writing as well as in performance. Applicants for whom English is a second language may have difficulty entering the program. The standards (both scholarly and performance) are high. The acceptance rate is well under fifty percent.
