Graduate Piano

The acceptance rate for piano is only about 42%. This is due to the large number of applicants we get each year. Defining the attributes of an acceptable applicant is very difficult. The level of acceptance is tied to what we expect from our own undergraduates, but that doesn't mean you have to graduate from a conservatory in order to be accepted. I went to the computer and ran a list of accepted MM piano applicants from last year to see what schools they came from. Besides music conservatories, many came from large schools like the Universities of Iowa, Southern California, Maryland, Michigan, and Oregon. Smaller schools listed include Concordia, Harvard, Rowen, and Swarthmore. International schools include Seoul National, Soochow, Toho, Victoria, Fu den, and Ewha. This is only a partial list, but these are mostly schools with exceptional music programs. If you are one of the best undergraduate performers at a music conservatory, or an outstanding performer at a more widely focused school, it is reasonable to apply to Peabody.

DMA applicants in piano must submit a screening tape as part of the application process.
