Jonathan D. Richardson, Director of Information Technology
As the Director of Information Technology, Jonathan Richardson is in sixth year guiding technology initiatives at the Peabody of The Johns Hopkins University. He is a key member of the Steering Committee for Information Services (SCIS), the manager of Peabody Information Technology (PIT), a member of the Institutional Computing Standards Committee (ICSC), and a member of the CIO Tech Council; in these capacities, he regularly participates in planning and policy meetings and committees at the institute and university level. During his service to the institute, he has guided Peabody through major changes in employment and policy of technology across the institute. Jonathan has been instrumental in catapulting Peabody into becoming modern and contemporary technology partner and he has strengthened the relationship between the institute and the university.
Although Jonathan's professional career in technology began in 1990, his fascination with technology began many years prior. He repaired his first electronic devices at 12 years of age; he wrote his first program at 13; and he wrote his first piece of electronic music using his training from lessons in piano and trumpet at 20. Jonathan was in his junior year of an Electronics Engineering Technology degree at Capitol College when he was lured away by a awesome opporutnity to work for TRW Business Systems. From then on, his expertise was used to provide technology solutions to organizations of banking and finance, retail, and various areas of the federal government. In January 2001, Jonathan came to Peabody and created a department uniquely designed to provide technology assistance to the institutions students, faculty and staff.
For relaxation Jonathan's interests are wide and varied. However, music and technology have remained stalwarts. Jonathan operates a successful internet radio station called Mosaic (www.mgrooves.com), performs as a DJ across the Mid-Atlantic Region, and likes to work on and race cars. He is actively working on several electronic music collaborations, a few that feature Peabody graduates.
