Currently pursuing her DMA in Flute Performance, Kristin Bacchiocchi-Stewart also serves as Faculty Associate at The Peabody Conservatory of Music, and as Flute Professor at Frostburg State University. Ms. Bacchiocchi-Stewart has also served on the faculty of Schenectady County Community CollegeIthaca College, the Savage Mountain Summer Chamber Music Series and Flauto Musicale. An active chamber musician, she is a member of TRITONIS (flute, cello, and guitar),  frequently concertizes with guitarist Joel Brown, with percussionist Michael Zell and I Venti Semplice. She has given concerts, lectures and master classes throughout the United States,  Europe and Japan. As an orchestral musician, she has played with the Albany Symphony Orchestra, Catskill Symphony, and The Albany Pro Musica. She was a prize winner at the 2002 National Flute Association’s Young Artist Competition, a participant in the First Beijing Nicolet International Flute Competition and a semi-finalist in the Myrna Brown and Ducrest Young Artist Competitions.  

Her cademic achievements include a M.M. from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and a B.M. from Ithaca College. She has participated in the Aspen Music Festival, the Colorado College Music Festival, and the Zurich 2000 Masterclass series. Her main teachers have been Marina Piccinini, Bradley Garner, Wendy Mehne, Claudia Anderson and Selma Moore.

 

 

JeeYoung (Rachel) Choe, a native of Seoul Korea, is pursuing her doctoral studies with Marina Piccinini at Peabody, where she received both Master of Music and Graduate Performance Diploma. She is the principal flutist of the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra and performs actively in music festivals and recitals as a member of duoMare with guitarist Akiko Sumi. Currently, she is a flute faculty member at the Peabody Preparatory Division and has previously taught music theory at Peabody Conservatory.

Ms. Choe has appeared as a soloist with the Mid-Atlantic Symphony, the Ewha Symphony and the Ewha String Ensemble. She has toured more than 10 Asian countries as principal flutist with the Asian Youth Orchestra under Sergiu Comissiona and participated in Carnegie Hall’s orchestral workshop under Maestro David Robertson. Ms. Choe has attended the Norfolk, Orford, Bowdoin, Aspen Music Festivals and the Zurich International Masterclasses. 

She was the special presentation winner of the Artists International New York and a first prizewinner of the Korea Flutist Association, Chunchu Music, Ewha Concerto, Chosun Newspaper, and Seoul Youth Chamber Competitions. She was also a finalist of the Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra Concerto Award. Ms. Choe holds a Bachelor of Music with honors from the Ewha Women's University in Korea.  

 

Ryu Cipris has performed as principal flute under conductors Marin Alsop, James DePreist, Michael Gilbert, and Gustav Meier among others. He has won first prizes in the Baltimore Music Club Winds Competition and the Flute Society of Washington Collegiate Soloist Competition, and was the sole flutist to be named a winner of the 2007 Yamaha Young Performing Artist national auditions. Ryu has been coached in chamber music by guitarists Manuel Barrueco and Julian Gray, french hornist Phil Munds, and oboist Katherine Needleman. He recently received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, where he was awarded the Britton Johnson Memorial Prize in flute performance. Ryu is currently in the Graduate Performance Diploma program at Peabody, continuing as a student of Marina Piccinini.

 

  Mindy Heinsohn, currently a senior, originates from Cordova, MD, where she began her flute studies at the age of nine. Previous teachers include Heather Fullerton, Gail Vehslage, and Mimi Stillman.  In 2004, Mindy served as  principal flute of Maryland Youth Symphony Orchestra, as well as the piccoloist in the Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra.  In addition to being a finalist in the United States Navy Band’s High School Soloist Competition, Mindy also won the Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition in 2004.  Mindy is currently Co-Principal Flute of American Youth Philharmonic and was recently featured as a soloist.  She has participated in the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Brevard Music Center, the Western Connecticut State University Flute Institute and the Julius Baker Flute Master Classes.

 

 

Heejung Kim, a native of Korea, is a second year master of music degree student studying with Marina Piccinini. She received the Advanced Flute Certificate Diploma at Carnegie Mellon University with Jeanne Baxtresser and Alberto Almarza in May 2006 and the Bachelor of Music degree in Flute performance from Yonsei University with Hyekyung Lee and Shinjung Oh. She has won the Korea Symphonic competition, the Seoul flute institution competition and the music Chunchu competition in Korea. Most recently, she captured First Prize in the Baltimore Arts Club Competition and second place in the Mid-Atlantic Flute Fair Competition in Washington, DC. She has performed with the Seoul Chamber Music society as a member, the Soloist Ensemble Guest and also performed as  soloist with the Wieniawsky Philharmonie.

 

 Jeong-hyun Kim, a native of Korea is currently pursuing her DMA in Flute Performance with Marina Piccinini. She received her Master of Music at the Carnegie Mellon School of Music where she worked with Jeanne Baxtresser and Alberto Almarza. Previously, she studied with Kyung-wha Song and Mi-sun Lee at the Seoul National University. A member of Seoul Youth Philharmonic for four years, she has been a soloist with the Korean Symphony, Seoul Symphony, and the Seoul Youth Philharmonic and has performed in recital at Kumho Art hall. Jeong-hyun Kim has won prizes in several competitions such as the Pittsburgh Concert Society, the Joongang Newspaper competition, Pusan MBC competition, Kynghyang-Ewha music competition, the Chosun Music Newspaper competition, Monthly music magazine competition and Seoul Symphony orchestra concerto competition. She was selected as a 2006 Pi Kappa Lambda nominee.

 

SangAe Kim, a native of Korea, is a first year master of music degree student studying with Marina Piccinini. Previously she studied with HyeKung Lee,Young Mi Kim and Valentine Zvreve at the Korea National University of Arts. She has been a soloist with the Korea National University of Art Symphony, Paris Maissy Orchestra, Seoul Wind Ensemble and has performed in recital at Kum-ho Art hall. SangAe Kim has won prizes in several competitions such as Dae gu TBC Competition, Kyng-Hang &Ewha music Competitions and Busan MBC Competition. She was selected for the Eum-Yeon Summer Music Festival Coca-Cola scholarship. SangAe most recently won 1st prize in the Osaka International Music Competition.

 

 

Dariya Nikolenko is a junior at  Peabody Conservatory where she studies with Marina Piccinini. She also studied at the Moscow State Conservatory with Pr. U. Dolzikov. Born in Novosibirsk, Dariya has won many competitions, including first prize in the Unesco International Competition "New Names" in 2004; the International competition for flutists in Yalgava, Latvia, 1998; 2nd prize in the Beethoven Festival, Moscow, 2005 and the International competition in Novosibirsk,1999. She has performed with the Novosibirsk Philharmonic as well as concerts in St. Peterburg, Yulgava, Ekateringurg, Suzdal,Tchalabinsk, Omsk, and Tomsk. Dariya took part in the International Masterclass with Marina Piccinini in Zurich, Switzerland, in 2004 and 2005.

 

Russian flutist Anastasia Petanova began playing the flute at the age of four and continued her studies at the Central Music School of the Moscow State Conservatory with Uriy N. Dolzhikov. Ms. Petanova has performed in Russia, Austria, Great Britain, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany and the USA, including the Festival de Russe in Cannes and the Music Festival in Colmar. She has appeared as soloist with the Moscow Virtuosi and the Russian National Orchestra under Vladimir Spivakov on several tours both in Russia and abroad. She received her Bachelor of Music form the Peabody Conservatory of Music where is also currently pursuing her Graduate Performer's Degree under Marina Piccinini.

 

Elena Yakovleva began playing both piano and flute as a child in Kaliningrad, Russia and later graduated from the Rachmaninov Music College with Honors in Performance and Pedagogy. In 2001 Elena moved to Germany to continue her studies at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold and at the Folkwanghochschule Essen, studying under Prof. Hans-Jörg Wegner and Prof. Gunhild Ott. Most recently, she studied under Jeanne Baxtresser and Alberto Almarza as a Performance Residence Program student at the Carnegie Mellon University on full scholarship.

Elena has toured as a soloist and with the Rachmaninov wind quintet, Traditional Russian Instrument Orchestra and the Kaliningrad Symphony Orchestra throughout Russia and Europe. Professional orchestral experience includes playing piccolo with Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. She was selected from the Peabody Symphony Orchestra to participate in the “Side by Side” project with Baltimore Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Marin Alsop. She spent this summer performing with the Summer Opera Theatre of Washington, D.C. She has appeared on both Russian and German TV. She has received a scholarship from the Russian Ministry of Culture, and in 2004 she was selected for the artist roster of Yehudi Menuhin's foundation "Live Music Now". She has been a winner of the "New Names" Festival in Moscow, the "Villa Musica" Award, and in 2006 won 2nd prize in the New York Flute Club Competition.

She has participated in masterclasses by Jeanne Baxtresser, Aurele Nicolet and Jean-Claude Girard. Currently she is in her second year of the Masters degree at Peabody Institute studying with Marina Piccinini.

 

Born in 1989, freshman Kimberly Zaleski (BM 1) began playing flute at the age of eight and piccolo at ten.  She is a graduate of the Juilliard pre-college division where she studied with Dr. Bradley Garner and was also student of Renee Siebert of the New York Philharmonic from 2004 through 2007. She has participated in master classes with Sir James Galway in Switzerland, and attended  the Julius Baker Classes at the Western Connecticut State University where she worked with  Julius Baker, Ransom Wilson, Kerry Walker, and Gary Schocker. In June 2006, Kimberly was the first featured piccoloist on the nationally broadcast show "From the Top," where she performed Willard Elliott's Fantasy. A 2005 Boston University Tanglewood Institute player, Kimberly was also chosen as an All-State flutist and has performed at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center with the NYSSSA Orchestra.  In 2003, as an eighth grader, Kimberly won the United States Military Academy instrumental competition and was featured solo performer with the Military Academy Band for its 2003 Mother's Day Concert, where she played Cecile Chaminade's Concertino.
