Auditioning at Peabody
Our brochure states: "Saxophone applicants should prepare two etudes of contrasting styles, two contrasting movements from a major sonata and (optional) one movement of a standard concerto." Considerable latitude is permitted in the choice of audition materials. Applicants are urged to perform repertoire which best represents their performance level and musical taste. The following list of compositions can be used as a guide.
Ferling 48 Etudes
Mule 18 Exercises after Berbiguier
Creston Sonata
Eccles/Rascher Sonata
Heiden Sonata
Glazounov Concerto
Ibert Concertino da Camera"
These are good guidelines, however, I want to stress that students should audition on that music which best represents how well they play. In an audition I look for many things: beauty of tone, technical ability, musical communication, and personality are a few. I encourage all students interested in Peabody to come for a live audition. You should be auditioning us as well!
