Direct Loan Master Promissory Note E-Signature Process
How do I e-sign my Federal Direct Loan Promissory Note?
First-time Direct Loan borrowers (students and parents) must sign a Master Promissory Note before loan funds can be disbursed.
The Direct Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) is available for completion on line. The site is available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week EXCEPT Sundays, 5:00AM-11:00AM EST and Mondays, 12:01AM-7:00AM EST.
A FASFA PIN is required to complete this process. If you do not have a valid PIN, you must go to the Department of Education’s PIN site at: http://www.pin.ed.gov.
-
Log on to E-MPN website at https://dlenote.ed.gov/empn/index.jsp
-
Select the “Complete new MPN for student loans” option if you are signing an MPN for a Direct Subsidized, Unsubsidized or Graduate PLUS loan
-
Select the “Complete new MPN for parent loans” option if you are signing an MPN for a Direct Parent PLUS loan
-
Provide your PIN number
-
Be sure to select Johns Hopkins University Peabody Institute when asked to provide the name of your school
-
Follow the instructions, and remember to print a copy of the promissory note for your records
If you do not want to accept the Direct Loan or you want to make changes to the amount, you must submit a Loan Adjustment Form.
It is important that you complete the process as soon as possible if you wish to receive your Federal Direct Student Loan. Your loan WILL NOT DISBURSE until all electronic documents are approved by the Financial Aid Office. A delay in completing this process will delay payment to your student billing account. Once you have successfully e-signed the promissory note, your loan will be disbursed within five days to your student billing account as scheduled by the Financial Aid System (ISIS).
