HORWITZ MEMORIAL COMPETITION FOR VIOLIN & PIANO DUO

 DEADLINE NOV 13
Sunday, December 13, 2009, at the Academy of Music in Gaithersburg, MD.  Forms may be obtained by contacting Claudette Horwitz @ clhorwitz@gmail.com  or Judith Silverman @ s.judith@verizon.net.  Forms are also available in your Student Activities Handbook, and on the MSMTA web site at www.msmta.org.
This competition features music written for violin and piano duo, to be performed by high school students, grades 9 through 12.  Two compositions are required with a minimum playing time of 5 minutes and maximum time of 15 minutes.  Both pieces may be sonata or sonatina movements in contrasting styles or periods, or you may select one sonata/sonatina movement and one piece for violin with piano accompaniment.
 

 

The Landon Symphonette Competition

 

Ages 13-18 (as of 3/27).  Preliminaries:  Sat. Dec. 5, 2009  Bethesda MD

Deadline:  postmark Nov15

Five finalists will each perform their concerto  with the Landon Symphonette at a concert on March 27, 2010 at 5:00 pm.  Rehearsals:  March 26, 7:30 p.m. and March 27, 2:00 p.m.

First prize $500, 2nd Prize $300, Third prize $200, which goes toward your music tuition.
