Conservatory Overview

The role of the Conservatory in today's society is largely unchanged since the Peabody was founded almost 150 years ago. The Peabody Conservatory serves to incubate and promote infinitely valuable art forms, while serving as a gathering place for the intellectual and artistic members of the music community.

Curriculum

Every Peabody undergraduate - even those majoring in Music Education or Recording Arts and Sciences - must complete the same performance curriculum as those majoring in performance.

There are 26 major fields divided over six degree and diploma levels. Departments include: brass, chamber music, composition, computer music, conducting, early music, general studies, guitar, harp, jazz studies, humanities, music education, musicology, organ, percussion, piano, recording arts, strings, theory, voice and opera, and woodwinds.
