Flute

Flutist Melinda Wade-English has played both flute and piccolo with the Annapolis Opera Orchestra, Annapolis Chorale Orchestra, the Gettysburg Symphony, the Maryland Philharmonic, Opera Vivente, and the Mount Vernon Orchestra.  She is currently on the adjunct woodwind faculty at Anne Arundel Community College and has also taught at Salisbury University. She is a former member of the United States Army Field Band and was featured flute soloist with this premier band on five of its major tours. These tours included performances in major concert halls in the United States, Korea, Japan, India and Germany. In 1989, she won the Western Maryland Flute Club competition. Melinda was also flutist with the Atlantic Winds Woodwind Quintet. This quintet won the Baltimore Chamber Music Competition twice. Currently, Melinda is flutist with the The West River Trio and Serenata chamber groups. Recently she has appeared as a soloist with both the Anne Arundel Community College Wine Ensemble and Orchestra, as well as a featured soloist with the Chesapeake Flute Symphony in Belgium and France. Several of her students have been chosen for the Maryland All-State Bands, the Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestras, and the Maryland Youth Symphony. In 2005, one of her students was given the opportunity to solo with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra on their side by side concert.  Melinda received her Bachelor of Music from the University of North Texas and a Master of Music from the Catholic University of America. Her teachers have included Emily Skala, Tim Day, Mark Sparks, Toshiko Kohno, and Carol Bean.
