Dr. Rachel Choe is currently the principal flutist of the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, the music director of TW12, a mixed-genre music ensemble and the leader of Soultree Ensemble. She was the special presentation winner of the Artists International New York and a first prizewinner of the Korea Flutist Association, Chunchu Music, Ewha Concerto, Chosun Newspaper, and Seoul Youth Chamber Competitions. She was also a finalist of the Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra Concerto Award. She has appeared as a soloist with the Mid-Atlantic Symphony, the Ewha Symphony and the Ewha String Ensemble. She was selected as one of two flutists for a professional workshop of David Robertson and performed at Carnegie Hall. She performed in Sidney Opera House, Tokyo Opera City Hall, Seoul Arts Center, Hong Kong Cultural Centre and others as principal flutist with the under the late Sergiu Comissiona. She has participated in the Norfolk, Orford, Bowdoin, Aspen Music Festivals and Zurich International Masterclass. She gave concerts from the corner of a small city in the Third World Countries to the major concert halls in the big cities with the passionate heart of her life mission, “Sharing Life through the Breath of Music,” which encourage her to teach in the OrchKids program, a collaboration between the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and a Baltimore public school, to introduce disadvantaged students to classical music. Dr. Choe received Doctor of Musical Arts in Flute Performance under the tutelage of Marina Piccinini at Peabody, where she received both Master of Music and Graduate Performance Diploma with prizes of the excellence in flute performance. She holds Bachelor of Music with honor from Ewha Women's University in Korea. Dr. Choe taught music theory at Peabody Conservatory, and currently is a flute faculty member at the Peabody's Preparatory Division.
