Rachel Choe, a native of Seoul Korea, is currently the principal flutist of the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra. She was the special presentation winner of the Artists International New York and a first prizewinner of the Korea Flutist Association, Chunchu Music, Ewha Concerto, Chosun Newspaper, and Seoul Youth Chamber Competitions. She was also a finalist of the Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra Concerto Award. Ms. Choe has appeared as a soloist with the Mid-Atlantic Symphony, the Ewha Symphony and the Ewha String Ensemble and as a chamber and an orchestral musician in major concert halls across Asia, Middle East and North America, touring more than 10 Asian countries as principal flutist with the Asian Youth Orchestra under Sergiu Comissiona and performing at Carnegie Hall, following a professional workshop of David Robertson. She is currently the member of duoMare with guitarist Akiko Sumi, performing actively in the music festivals and in the recital series in the states. Upcoming major concerts include chamber concerts in Turkey and Academy Art Museum Recital Series and a solo appearance with Mid-Atlantic Symphony. Ms. Choe has participated in the Norfolk, Orford, Bowdoin, Aspen Music Festivals and Zurich International Masterclass. Ms. Choe is pursuing her doctoral studies with Marina Piccinini at Peabody, where she received both Master of Music and Graduate Performance Diploma. She holds Bachelor of Music from Ewha Women's University in Korea. Ms. Choe taught music theory at Peabody Conservatory, and currently is a flute faculty member at the Peabody's Preparatory Division.
