Student ID Cards
Each student studying at the Downtown Campus must obtain an ID card for the electronic Card-Key System. These cards can be obtained by filling out an ID Request Form in the main Preparatory Office, which will then be forwarded to Campus Police. IDs are made on Thursdays and can be picked up from the Campus Police Office in the basement of Shapiro House. Please allow at least one week for the processing of your ID before you try to pick it up.
Each subsequent year of study at the Downtown Campus, the card will be reactivated on the first day of classes contingent upon receipt of the registration for that year. The card-keys then become the student's personal key to all customary entrances during normal lesson times. Students arriving on campus without their card-key must use the 17 East Mount Vernon Place entrance (near the George Peabody Library) and will be asked to sign in. Because the electronic system monitors the use of every card, it is extremely important that each individual ensure that his or her ID card is never used by anyone else. The adult who brings the student to the Preparatory must use his or her student ID card. When using the card, please do not hold the door open for anyone else. The ID cards are the property of the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University and are to be carried at all times and presented upon request to any University office.
The ID cards are nontransferable. If the card is lost or stolen, a report must be made immediately to the Campus Police Office at (410) 659-8100, ext. 6000. Peabody Institute is not responsible for any loss or expense resulting from the loss, theft, or misuse of the card. If the ID card is damaged or lost, a replacement fee of $15 will be charged; if found, please return to the Peabody Institute Campus Police.
Parents and friends who are on the campus with Preparatory students may be asked to sign in and wear a visitor's pass, which must be displayed at all times and returned to Campus Police at the time of departure.
Student ID cards are not required for classes at the Towson Campus.
