J. Scott Matejicka
Guitar; Chair, Guitar, Harp and Percussion departments
Guitarist J. Scott Matejicka has performed as a concerto and recital soloist throughout the eastern United States. As a chamber musician, Scott performs on the lute and baroque guitar with the Peabody Renaissance Ensemble, Ensemble Chaeron and Ignoti Dei Opera. On the modern classical guitar, he concertizes extensively with the 1 East Guitar Quartet. Recently 1EastGQ performed as featured artists at the Mannes Guitar Festival, Connecticut Guitar Festival as well as the Alexandria Guitar Festival
Scott is a graduate of the Master of Music program at Yale University where he was a faculty assistant to concert artist Benjamin Verdery. His talents have been recognized with numerous awards including the Yale University Eliot Fisk Award, of which he was the first recipient. Scott frequently gives lectures and leads master classes. Recent lectures have been praised by NYlon (New York classical guitar online) as “exceptional” and “absolutely brilliant.” He further shares his expertise through “The Guitarist’s Studio,” his quarterly column in the Baltimore Classical Guitar Society Newsletter. Scott is currently chair of the Guitar, Harp & Percussion Department at the Peabody Preparatory of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore where he teaches guitar, chamber music, and guitar history.
