Conservatory faculty; degrees from Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the Peabody Conservatory, and post graduate piano studies in Germany and France. McVicar has won numerous competition prizes and awards including the Frinna Awerbuch International Piano Competition. He has taken part in solo and concerto performances and radio broadcasts in Australia, Thailand, Singapore, France, and various venues in the United States including Carnegie Recital Hall. He has studied with Ann Schein, Leon Fleisher, Yvonne Lefebure, and Murray Perahia.
