Repertoire:

  • Haydn Concerto
  • Hindemith Sonata
  • Hummel Concerto

Departmental Examination:

The student will perform technical exercises, major and minor scales through four sharps and flats, and repertoire deemed appropriate by the instructor.

Second Year:

Technique:

  • Bousquet
  • Charlier
  • Scales—fluency in all major and minor scales in patterns and articulations as requested by the teacher.

Repertoire:

  • Peeters Sonata
  • Stevens Sonata
  • Solo compositions—of moderate difficulty that contain both lyrical passages and passages that require technical agility.

Skills:

Transposition—orchestral excerpts involving transposition.

Departmental Examination:

Based on the above materials, including all major and minor scales.

Third Year:

Technique:

  • Bitsch Etudes
  • Brandt
  • Scales—same as second year but of greater difficulty.

Repertoire:

  • Kennan Sonata
  • Solo compositions same as second year but of greater difficulty.

Skills:

Transposition same as second year but of greater difficulty.

Departmental Examination:

Based on the above materials.

Fourth Year:

Technique:

  • Reynolds Etudes
  • Smith Top Tones
  • A continuation of scale work at the discretion of the instructor.

Repertoire:

  • Davies
  • Jolivet
  • Tomasi
  • Orchestral Excerpts

Skills:

Assignments at the discretion of the instructor.

Departmental Examination:

Recital, 5060 minutes of music.
