Departmental Examination:
The student will perform technical exercises, major and minor scales through four sharps and flats, and repertoire deemed appropriate by the instructor.
Second Year:
Technique:
- Bousquet
- Charlier
- Scales—fluency in all major and minor scales in patterns and articulations as requested by the teacher.
Repertoire:
- Peeters Sonata
- Stevens Sonata
- Solo compositions—of moderate difficulty that contain both lyrical passages and passages that require technical agility.
Skills:
Transposition—orchestral excerpts involving transposition.
Departmental Examination:
Based on the above materials, including all major and minor scales.
Third Year:
Technique:
- Bitsch Etudes
- Brandt
- Scales—same as second year but of greater difficulty.
Repertoire:
- Kennan Sonata
- Solo compositions – same as second year but of greater difficulty.
Skills:
Transposition – same as second year but of greater difficulty.
Departmental Examination:
Based on the above materials.
Fourth Year:
Technique:
- Reynolds Etudes
- Smith Top Tones
- A continuation of scale work at the discretion of the instructor.
Repertoire:
- Davies
- Jolivet
- Tomasi
- Orchestral Excerpts
Skills:
Assignments at the discretion of the instructor.
Departmental Examination:
Recital, 50–60 minutes of music.
