First Year:

Technique:

Emphasis is on the basics in playing: breathing, sound (tone), intonation, rhythm, style and musicality. Legato, clef reading, and tonguing are emphasized secondarily.  Use of scales and etudes on a level to be determined by the teacher after evaluation of each individual student’s needs.

Repertoire:

Solos and excerpts on a level to be determined by the teacher after evaluation of each individual student’s needs.

Departmental Examination:

Based on the above.

Second Year:

Technique:

Same as stated for first year.

Repertoire:

Same as stated for first year.

Departmental Examination:

Based on the above.

Third Year:

Technique:

Same as stated for first two years.

Repertoire:

Same as stated for first two years.

Recitals:

Participation in student recitals upon recommendation of the teacher is mandatory.

Departmental Examination:

Fourth Year:

Technique:

Same as stated for first three years.

Repertoire:

Same as stated for first three years.

Recitals:

Same as stated for third year.

Departmental Examination:

Undergraduate recital, 50–60 minutes of music.
