Four Peabody Preparatory violin students placed in the Friday Morning Music Club High School String Competition in Washington, D.C. on November 2, 2009.  This competition requires performing three pieces from different periods, including one contemporary work.  These students study with Rebecca Henry, Violaine Melançon and Ivan Stefanovic.  

 

First Prize ($700):   Lauren Song, violin
Third Prize(tie)($300):    Julie LeDuc, violin

Brian Kim was recently chosen as the only high school student from MD to be invited to the National High School Honors Orchestra. Brian Studies with Matthew Horwitz Lee and is a member of PCVP under the direction of Rebecca Henry.

Violinist Karyne Beverly (age 12), a student of Matthew Horwitz-Lee, won the Young Artist Orchestra Concerto competition at the Peabody Preparatory on Jan 24th and will perform Allegro from J S Bach's Violin Concerto in A minor with the orchestra in May.

Violinist Lauren Song, 16, has been named a finalist for the National Symphony Orchestra Young Soloists' Competition. She will perform the first movement of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in e minor in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall on Sunday, February 15 at 6:00 p.m. The concert is free. Lauren is a member of the Preparatory's Pre-Conservatory Violin Program and studies with Rebecca Henry

Violinist Brian Kim, A student of Matthew Horwitz-Lee won first prize in the Frederick Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition as well as a place in the Preparatory Honors Recital at the Peabody. Brian is a member of the Preparatory's Pre-Conservatory Violin Program . He will be perforing the first and second movements of the Dvorak Violin Concerto in A minor Op.53, Allegro ma non troppo and the Adagio ma non troppo, with the Frederick Symphony Orchestra Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 8:00 p.m.

Kenneth Naito was named the alternate, and Skye Kinlaw and Kelley Jo Wallace received Honorable Mention. Kenneth studies with Elizabeth Faidley, and Skye and Kelley Jo study with Rebecca Henry.

Kelly Jo Wallace visited Luray Caverns over Thanksgiving and she convinced them to let her try playing her violin down in the caverns. She was really inspired by the sound and her mom says the tourists loved it.

 

Violinist Brian Kim recently won second place in this years JCC Concerto Competition. He will perform the Mozart Violin Concerto with the JCC Youth Festival Orchestra on May 4 2008 (Sunday) at the Baltimore JCC. Brian is a student of Matthew Horwitz-Lee.  

Concerto Competition Winner Announced

The winner of the 2007-2008 Concerto Competition is violinist Patricia Wnek. Patricia, a student of Rebecca Henry, will be featured with the Sinfonietta on Saturday May 10, 2008 performing Weiniawski's violin concerto no. 2 in d minor.

 

 

Preparatory String Ensemble Competition

The Winner of the 2007-2008 Preparatory String Ensemble Competition is violinist Karyne Beverly. Karyne, a student of Mr. Matt Horwitz-Lee, will be featured with the Preparatory String Ensemble on the afternoon of Saturday May 10, 2008.

 

 

 

 

 Annie Im, a student of Rebecca Henry,  and Jeffrey Zhang, a student of Elizabeth Faidley, received honorable mentions and placed first alternate and second alternate respectively.

Peabody Preparatory violinists Alan Zhang and Brian Kim won both the Junior and Senior divisions of the Columbia Symphony Orchestra's Young Artist Competition, which was held January 5 and 6 and is open to instrumentalists who live or study in Howard County. They will both perform with the CSO on Saturday May 31, 2008 at the James T. Rouse Theater in Columbia, MD. They study with Rebecca Henry and Matthew Horwitz-Lee respectively, and Brian is a member of the Pre-Conservatory Violin Program.
