Lane Harder
Theory
Originally from Mineola, TX; B.M. Southern Methodist University; resident study at Kings College London and The Royal Academy of Music; masters degrees in composition and music theory pedagogy from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University where he studied with Chris Theofanidis. Mr. Harder’s major studies in counterpoint, harmony, and analysis in the tradition of Nadia Boulanger have been with Dr. Philip Lasser of The Julliard School. Mr. Harder joined the faculty of the European American Musical Alliance Summer Composition Program in Paris, France in 2007, teaching counterpoint and composition. He has also served as Faculty Associate at Peabody, and he will be teaching sections in History of Music and American Popular Music courses at Homewood during the 2007-2008 year. He spent eleven years as a freelance performer, composer, and teacher in the Dallas area, where he served as Assistant Director of Music at Jesuit College Preparatory School, performed with numerous regional orchestras, and recorded three CD’s of music on Gasparo Records. As a composer, Mr. Harder has received awards from ASCAP, NACUSA, PAS, Voices of Change, TMTA, and The Florence Gould Foundation. His music is published by KPP and recorded on Gasparo Records. A CD by the University of Houston Percussion Ensemble featuring his music will be released on Albany Records in 2007.
