Donvonté McCoyA graduate of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, he received his bachelor’s degree from the New School for Social Research. Since receiving his degree, Donvonté has held positions as music teacher in District of Columbia public schools and New York City public schools. Along with his commitment to education, he has worked with artists such as Lionel Hampton, Curtis Fuller, Larry Ridley, Ruth Brown, Charles Davis, Lou Rawls, drummer Steve Williams, Ben Dixon, Ellsworth Gipson, John Jennings, Rene Mclean, Larry Willis, Alan Jay Palmer, and has performed with masters such as Louis Hayes and Jackie Mclean. Donvonté co-leads the band New Soil with pianist Alan Jay Palmer. He is also the leader of his own group, The Donvonté McCoy Quintet.
