Frequently Asked Questions: BM

Q.  Do I have to take the Music History I, II, III and IV courses in sequence?

A.  No.  You can take your four required history courses (I, II, III, IV or Music and Culture) in any order you wish.

Q.  Must I take courses in the year in which they are listed in my program?

A.  No.  The catalog lists a suggested four-year program of courses.  To earn your degree you must meet all the stated requirements, but not necessarily in the years in which they are listed.

Q.  Eight semesters of lessons are required for undergraduates, but if I'm a transfer student and finish all of my BM degree requirements in six semesters, do I still have to complete eight semesters of lessons?

A.  All students must be enrolled in lessons for every semester in which they are in a degree program.  If a student completes his or her BM degree requirements in, for example, six semesters, he or she will only be required to take six semesters of lessons.
