Audition information for 2009 - 2010

Auditions for the Peabody Preparatory’s Premiere Youth Orchestra 2009 - 2010  season for new and returning string players, plus late winds/brass/percussion player auditions will be on September 5.  The times will be 1 p.m - 5 p.m and 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.

The Peabody Youth Orchestra is open to advanced middle through high school age musicians in all strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion. This is the premiere orchestra in the Peabody Preparatory Orchestra program, concentrating on standard orchestral repertoire in a high-level learning and performing experience. Rehearsals are typically on Saturdays from 12:30-2:30 pm at the Baltimore main campus. Two to three full-length concerts are given each year, including performances with faculty and guest artists as well as accompanying the winner of the Preparatory Concerto Competition. Complete symphonies and concerto accompaniments are performed.

Repertoire for the fall semester of 2009-2010 will include:

Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov: The Tsar's Bride (Tsarskaya nevesta) Overture
Jules Massenet: Le Cid: Ballet Music
Mark Lortz: Deus Ex Machina
Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy: Symphony No. 5 in D major, Op. 107,  Reformation

Membership is open by audition only and previous orchestral ensemble experience is preferred.  Everyone is welcome to audition for the orchestra regardless of whether or not the student studies privately in the Preparatory.  (Only students who study privately in the Peabody preparatory are elegible to participate in the Preparatory recitals and competitions, including the Concerto Competition.)

Please call the Baltimore main campus Preparatory Office to schedule an appointment at 410-234-4630.  Current memebers of the 2008 - 2009 Peabody Youth Orchestra must also schedule an audition if planning to return for the 2009 - 2010 season.  Qualified students who are accepted into the orchestra may be eligible for partial scholarship assistance.
