Randall Bauer

Music Theory

Randy Bauer is a diverse artist whose pursuits explore the worlds of music composition, jazz, improvisation, performance, artistic collaborations, and scholarship.

His compositions have received several national awards (including three ASCAP Morton Gould awards and an ASCAP jazz composer's award) and have been premiered by such groups as the Brentano String Quartet, eighth blackbird, Nash Ensemble of London, Synergy Vocals, New Millennium Ensemble, MATA Micro-Orchestra, Network for New Music, Talujon Percussion Quartet, Clogs, Tarab Cello Ensemble, Chicago Ensemble, Philadelphia Chamber Symphony, and DoublePlay. Performances have taken place at the Kennedy Center, St. Petersburg (Russia), Uppsala (Sweden), Berlin, Paris, Weimar, Music at the Anthology (NYC), St. Paul's at Citicorp (NYC), Three Arts Club (Chicago), Princeton University, the Atlantic Center for the Arts, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Skidmore College, Colgate University, University of Texas, and many others.

He is also an accomplished jazz pianist and composer and has received awards and honors from ASCAP, DownBeat, the Commission Project, Jazz Composers Alliance, and the Concours International de la Ville de Paris. He has been a fellow at Yaddo, the Ucross Foundation, and the Atlantic Center for the Arts, and also received a major fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. He has taught at Princeton University, Rider University, and Skidmore College. He holds degrees from Johns Hopkins University and Princeton University (PhD).
