Amos Allen
This is a tribute to the memory of my teacher, Amos Allen: I studied with Mr. Amos Allen while working on my Master of Music degree in Piano Performance. I also was fortunate to be able to study briefly with Dean Boal, who was also Dean of the Conservatory at that time. Mr. Allen gave me a technique of relaxation and agility that I did not have prior to studying with him. His technique (handed down from Austin Conradi) enabled me to continue my studies and achieve a DMA degree in Piano Performance from West Virginia University.
-Jeriel Gilmer, MM ’67, is retired. He taught for 33 years at Fairmont State University, W.V., and served two terms as president of the West Virginia Music Teachers Association. He is still active in music as a substitute church organist in the area, private teacher, and singer in the Community Chorus and the Episcopal Church Choir.
