Director of Recording Arts
Scott Metcalfe has many years of experience as a recording engineer, producer and composer. He has engineered hundreds of recordings in many different styles of music, with a primary focus on remote classical recording. Recent highlights include recordings of Renée Fleming and Sarah Chang with the Hartford Symphony for broadcast, and a live solo recording of Yo-Yo Ma. His work in a variety of styles – including classical, folk, flamenco, Tibetan singing bowls, jazz, rock/pop and spoken word – has been released internationally on numerous independent labels, broadcast nationally on National Public Radio and the CBS Radio Network, and heard on radio broadcasts in Europe and Australia. He has taught in the Music Production and Technology department at The Hartt School since 1996 and was director/chair of the program from 1999; from 1999-2000 he served on the Summerterm faculty of New York University's graduate Tonmeister program; has been a Lecturer in Recording Arts at the Yale School of Drama in the Theatrical Sound Design program since 2003. He is a professional member of the Audio Engineering Society, a voting member of NARAS (The Recording Academy, Grammy Awards), and a writer member of ASCAP.
