Financial Aid Office
Leakin Hall, Plaza Level
410-234-4900
The Peabody Financial Aid Office helps guide students through the complex world of federally funded student aid programs and administers all scholarships, loans, and grant assistance from federal state, private and institutional sources.
Students should visit www.peabody.jhu.edu/finaid for a complete description of aid programs, policies and deadlines, as well as answers to frequently asked questions. The following information should prove helpful to all Peabody students:
-
We will communicate with you by email using the e-mail address that is marked as preferred in ISIS. Students may change the preferred e-mail address setting in ISIS (http://isis.jhu.edu) under the Personal Information menu.
-
All students are assigned a financial aid advisor who can offer advice about managing student loans, building a budget, searching for private scholarships, and any topic related to financing a college education. You may contact the Financial Aid Office for more information.
-
Students receiving federal or state aid must reapply every year using the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The deadline for continuing students is February 15. File the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Be sure to have the results sent to Peabody using school code E00233.
-
Peabody scholarships and grants are automatically renewed, provided that students make satisfactory academic progress as defined in the Academic Catalog. Academic progress is reviewed at the end of each semester by the graduate and undergraduate committees. Students who do not meet the school's standards may be dismissed or placed on academic probation. Students are still eligible for financial aid and scholarship while on academic probation; however, dismissal results in the loss of all financial aid. Students may appeal the committee's decision in writing to the associate dean for academic affairs. Mitigating circumstances include (but are not limited to) injury and/or illness.
-
Undergraduate awards are for eight semesters (four years) of study, and Graduate/Diploma awards are for four semesters (two years) of study. Undergraduate students admitted into the BM/MM or Recording Arts five-year programs will have their undergraduate scholarship extended for a fifth year.
-
Students receiving Peabody grants, scholarships, or assistantships are expected to maintain full-time status, as defined in the Academic Catalog. A drop below full-time status will result in the loss of scholarship.
-
Students must be enrolled at least half-time (as defined in the Catalog) in order to receive federal and/or institutional loans.
-
Students (domestic and international) receiving grants or scholarships in excess of tuition and fees are subject to U.S. tax laws. All wages (including federal work-study and the earned portion of an assistantship) will be taxed as well. Students should direct their tax questions to the University Tax Office, 443-997-8442, Johns Hopkins at Eastern, 1101 E. 33rd St., Suite C202, Baltimore, MD 21218.
