NYT profile for saxophone/physics student

Dillon Brout, a double degree student majoring in classical saxophone at Peabody and physics at the Krieger School, was profiled in a November 2 New York Times story, “Johns Hopkins Student Applies Dark Energy to the Black Art of Racing.” One of his professors is Adam Riess, a winner of the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics.

Emerging Voices

Alumnus Zach Herchen (BM ’07, MM ’09, Saxophone; BM ’06, Recording Arts) and Elisabeth Halliday (BA ’07, German) have released a self-produced album of music for voice and saxophone. Emerging Voices pairs the music of Lori Laitman with commissioned works by Kathleen Bader, Adam Knauss (MM ’08, Music Theory, Composition), and George Lam (MM ’05, Music Theory, Composition). The CD was mastered by Peabody faculty member Michael MacDonald.

Virginia MTA Concerto Competition

Clarinetist Melissa Bowles, a GPD candidate studying with Steven Barta, won the Virginia Music Teachers Association Concerto Competition in Richmond, Va. on Oct. 29. Bowles performed Weber's Clarinet Concerto No. 2 with the Virginia Commonwealth University Symphony Orchestra.

Eastern Music Festival Concerto Competition

Two Peabody students were among the winners of the 2011 Eastern Music Festival Concerto Competition. Junior Michael Delfin, a piano student of Boris Slutsky, performed Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 2 in A major, S.125; and sophomore Dillon Meacham, a bassoon student of Philip Kolker, performed Mozart's Bassoon Concerto in B-flat major, K.191 (mvt. 1).

Central Ohio Flute Association Young Artist Competition

Doctor of Musical Arts candidate Cheryl Lim won second prize in the Central Ohio Flute Association Young Artist Competition on Apr. 16. Lim's teacher Marina Piccinini was the featured guest artist at the Central Ohio Flute Association convention.
