Auditions

Monday, May 23, 2011

The tuition-free Estelle Dennis/Peabody Dance Training Program for Boys at the Peabody Preparatory is seeking both untapped talent and boys with some previous training. Approximately 20-25 exceptional boys who have the natural ability, physical facility, and real desire to dance will be invited to participate.

Selected Boys Will Receive:

  • Free tuition for training valued at more than $1,500 that includes weekly, all-boys classes for the Peabody Dance 2011-2012 Fall/Spring 32-week season, and an invitation in some cases to participate in additional, on-going classes, all tuition-free.

  • An extraordinary course of study primarily focusing on ballet basics, the foundation for all theatrical dance—and also including contemporary dance, hip-hop, and other forms.

  • Classes which take place at the Peabody Institute in the heart of Baltimore’s elegant Mount Vernon district and/or in Towson on the Goucher campus.

  • Dance shoes and some other necessary dance wear.

  • Unique opportunities to take field trips to professional dance performances, meet with former Baltimorean male dancers, and view films and videos of great male dancers past and present.

  • Study with nationally esteemed, former Pennsylvania Ballet soloist Meredith Rainey; outstanding Peabody Dance faculty member, Tim Rinko-Gay; and nationally renowned guest artists.

Audition Information

What Do I Wear for the Audition?

Candidates should wear close-fitting shorts; fitted short-sleeved, tucked-in t-shirts (preferably white or light solid color); and thick black socks. Boys who already have ballet shoes and dance tights or biker shorts (the eventual dress code) may certainly wear them.

Who are the Program's Artistic Leaders and Faculty?

Carol Bartlett, Artistic Director of Peabody Dance, has shaped and developed its dance program for twenty years.

Barbara Weisberger, Artistic Advisor of Peabody Dance since 2001, is the founder and was Artistic Director of the internationally renowned Pennsylvania Ballet and Carlisle Project.

Meredith Rainey, who joined the Estelle Dennis Dance Scholarship Program for Boys at Peabody in its inaugural year, was a dancer and eventually a soloist with the Pennsylvania Ballet for nineteen years until 2006.

Timothy Rinko-Gay, alternate teacher for the Estelle Dennis Dance Scholarship Program for Boys, already is an outstanding member of the Peabody Dance faculty.

Additional guest artists will be announced throughout the season.
