The Ensemble Office of The Peabody Conservatory manages all personnel, material and activities related to the Conservatory's large ensembles, graduate conducting program, instrumental repertoire classes, and instrument rentals and loans. Questions relating to any of these areas should be directed to this office. Our staff coordinates the fall placement audition process and schedules ensemble rehearsals. We also maintain the Ensemble Library and supervise the distribution of library materials. The Ensemble Library is a non-circulating collection, and includes scores and parts for musical repertoire that requires nine or more players.
The large ensemble program at the Peabody Conservatory of Music includes such outstanding permanent organizations as the Peabody Symphony Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Camerata, Peabody/Hopkins Chorus and Singers, Opera Theatre, and Jazz Orchestra. This comprehensive program is designed to acquaint the entire student body, as well as the participating student, with the rich and varied literature of these genres, and to provide participants with the means, through rigorous rehearsals and frequent public performances, of developing their musical skills to a high level of artistic competence. These student performances also represent a considerable and significant portion of Peabody's contribution to the cultural life of the surrounding community.
Please note that the Ensemble Office does NOT handle requests from the public on hiring musicians or chamber groups for private functions. Please direct these requests to the Peabody Office of Career Counseling and Placement at (410) 659-8100 ext. 4450.
