Application Procedures
The online form will be available again at a later date for those wishing to start an application for the October 2008 round.
Mr. Jeffrey Sharkey, the Director of the Peabody Institute, accepts applications for Peabody Career Development Grants each semester - in October and March. The deadlines for this academic year are October 19, 2007 and March 14, 2008. Applications will be considered for career-enhancing activities in areas in which Peabody offers a major or grants a degree. The awards may support large or small projects, whether to attend a competition, present concerts, publish a work, produce a demonstration recording, prepare publicity materials, buy formal concert wear, etc. Applications for assistance in the purchase of an instrument will also be considered. Projects must take place outside of Peabody. Applications will not be considered for regular college and university study.
In most cases, Peabody Career Development Grants will provide partial funding for a project and are made in amounts up to $1,000. They may be made contingent on the completion of a project and are awarded for future and not past activities.
Eligibility is restricted to current Peabody students or alumni within five years of having graduated from Peabody. Undergraduate applicants must have been enrolled for at least two years in a degree, diploma, or certificate program. Given the large number of applicants, proposals will not be considered from persons who were awarded a grant in the previous academic year. Finally, no applicant may receive more than a total of two grants.
Peabody Career Development Grant awards are recognized each year at Graduation. Notification is by letter. In considering an application, the Director may consult with faculty and staff. Applications should be submitted as early as possible before the event for which support is requested.
Applications should include the following:
- a letter to Mr. Sharkey outlining the project
- a resume with complete contact information (examples are available at the Career Counseling Office)
- a project budget with any supporting documentation
- at least one letter of recommendation from your teacher at Peabody (alumni may substitute a letter from another suitable professional source if necessary)
Additional materials may also be included, which are relevant for the committee to review :
- recordings
- press materials
- validating documents
A written report and copies of receipts are required after a project is completed.
The Peabody Career Development Fund was established in 1986 through a generous founding endowment gift from Douglas S. Goodwin, Maryland homebuilder, and was greatly enhanced by subsequent generous endowment gifts from the Caswell J. And Constance Caplan Charitable Trust, The Eyer Educational Foundation, and Malcolm and Loraine Bernstein.
Questions about applications should be directed to Jan McLean in the Director's Office, (410) 659-8100, ext. 3060.
