Certification Program

The Certification Program is designed for individuals who hold a Bachelor of Music degree from an accredited institution and who wish to become certified by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) to teach in the public schools.

Candidates must pass the Praxis I or have an SAT score of 1000 prior to 1995 or 1100 after 1995 before enrolling (writing score not included).  A competency can also be displayed by a GRE score of 1000 will also suffice, as will an ACT of 24. Click here to go to the MSDE web-site.

Peabody reserves the right to require additional credits beyond minimum requirements identified through the aforementioned transcript analysis in order for the candidate to qualify for intern teaching. Peabody also may ask that the candidate complete the Praxis before starting coursework.
