Double Bass Master Class With Felicia Konczal '95

Master Class with Peabody Alumni Felicia Konczal '95

While in town playing for the Baltimore Opera Company's production of Donizetti's Don Pasquale, Double Bassist, Felicia Konczal (MM '95), made time for this year's Double Bass students.  She said, "It feels good to give back."  We not only agree, but send our sincerest thanks.

"Be comfortable in all things.  The way you breathe, the way you relate to the bass, the way you finger, make sound and bow.  If you do this, everything else will follow."

GPD candidate Ji-won Choi and Charlotte Symphony bassist Felicia Konzal (MM '95) discuss Strauss' Don Juan from a woman's point of view.
"You guys are so lucky.  You will never have so much time and so much opportunity as you have right now to learn your craft and make your music."

Ms. Konczal and senior Chris Hamlen work on orchestral material from Mozart's Haffner Symphony.  ". . . some people play it on, some people play it off, my stroke "flexes" in the middle.  Whatever you do, it has to have clarity, shape and consistency."
The frank exchange between someone who has been exactly where they are now -- and is standing where they want to be-- was a unique and inspiring moment for the Double Bass class of '04.
