# 16921: Bach & Handel; Evolution of the Piano; Women in Music
Program

Back & Handel

featuring Douglas Heist

Bach and Handel exemplify Baroque music at its grandest and most developed. As you explore the diverse lives of these composers, study the elements of the genre that made it enduring and popular through the ages.

The Evolution of the Piano

featuring Kris Faatz

The first organ was built by ancient Greeks. Over centuries, the form of the instrument changed: keys were added and independent builders experimented with strings to create sound. Explore the evolution of an entirely new instrument --the piano.

Women in Music

Janice Macaulay

Survey women's contributions to music, from the Middle Ages to the present.  Examine symphonic music, songs, chants and opera to jazz, gospel, country and pop, through composers such as Hildegard, Clara Schumann, Bessie Smith, and Laurie Anderson.
