# 18582 Snapshot: Stories of Struggle & Success in the Music Biz
Program

featuring Bill Messenger and Julie Kurzava

"Over the Rainbow" was deleted from The Wizard of Oz before a reluctant L.B. Mayer allowed it to remain in the score, after which it won the academy award! Discuss ironic and sometimes bizarre stories behind Hollywood's most memorable songs. Explore the Business of Art--from Baroque court composers and church musicians to creators of Broadway musicals, the arts have always been a perilous way to make a living. Examine art and commerce and the challenging struggle of the musician to make a living while still creating beautiful masterworks!

NOTE:

In contrast to our regular programs, which last 6 days and 5 nights, "Snapshot" programs are shorter, running 4 days and 3 nights. They are designed to provide an introduction to all that our Exploritas has to offer! This program will begin on Sunday, May 23, 2010 and will conclude on Wednesday, May 26, 2010.
