Definition of Full-Time Status

Students at the Conservatory are considered full time if they carry the following number of credit hours per semester:

  1. Undergraduate Programs
    • Bachelor of Music: 13
    • Performer's Certificate: 13
    • Within reason, students in degree programs (B.M., B.M.R.A., B.M.ED.) may register for an unlimited number of credits, without additional cost.
  2. Graduate Diploma Programs
    • Graduate Performance Diploma: 4
    • Artist Diploma: 4
    • GPD and AD programs are for full-time students only. Students in these programs are allowed to register for lessons, recitals, unlimited ensembles, and one academic course (1-3 credits) each semester. Academic credits in excess of three hours will entail additional per credit hour fees. Credit limits reflect our educational philosophy that graduate students should expect to focus on the intense challenges specific to their major area and related academic studies.
  3. Graduate Degree Programs
    • Master of Music: 9
    • Doctor of Musical Arts: 9

Credit Limit for Graduate Degree Programs

In addition to lessons, ensembles, recitals, and audited courses, students enrolled in graduate degree programs (M.M. and D.M.A.) may enroll for a maximum of 9 credit hours of academic classes each semester. Undergraduate language classes are excluded from the credit limit. Academic credits in excess of 9 hours will entail additional per credit hour fees.
