Adult and Continuing Education (ACE)

Larry Williams, Director
larryw@peabody.jhu.edu

The Adult and Continuing Education program (ACE) is designed to provide enrichment to adults in the community who seek opportunities to feed the mind, body, and spirit. Through its programs, we hope to build a community of lifelong learners who both appreciate and practice the creative arts.

Individual Instruction

Individual instruction is available to adults of all experience levels—from beginners through the most advanced levels of study. Lessons are scheduled on an individual basis and are contingent upon teacher availability. Students enrolled in individual instruction are required to have a practice instrument available. Tuition is based on a sixteen-week semester. Late registration/missed lessons are not prorated. To register for individual instruction by instrument, please see the relevant department page for course codes by instrument and length of lesson.

Placement for Students New to Individual Instruction

For the Summer 2012 Session, new students may either register online or send in their completed registration form with full payment indicating their intent and need to be placed. Registered students will then be contacted by the Preparatory Office to set up a placement appointment, if applicable. New students are placed on a first come, first served basis. Due to limited space, registration before June 1 is strongly recommended.

Chamber Music for Adults—Strings and Piano

Are you an aspiring adult amateur chamber musician looking for others like yourself to make music with? Perhaps you played seriously when you were younger and are looking to reconnect with music after choosing another career path? Whether you are an advanced musician with chamber music experience or an intermediate player with less experience, this course is designed to match you with others of similar level to learn classical repertoire.

This course consists of a weekly coaching and a private rehearsal. Individuals and pre-formed groups are encouraged to apply. Each group will consist of a minimum of three players (string quartet, piano trio, etc.). Private study at the Preparatory is not a prerequisite for participation. Prior to placement, students will submit their schedules to the coordinator who will place them in a group, assign a coach, and identify coaching and rehearsal times.
