Catrin Davies

Catrin DaviesCatrin Rowenna Davies, mezzo-soprano, director and educator, is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, Wales. Ms. Davies specializes in Welsh repertoire and won first prize at the North American Festival of Wales in 2002 and 2004. She has also competed at the National Festival in Wales. She has performed locally with Wolf Trap Opera; Annapolis Symphony Orchestra and Chorale; Young Victorian Theatre Company in the roles of the Fairy Queen in Iolanthe, Phoebe in Yeomen of the Guard, Pitti Sing in The Mikado, Constance in The Sorcerer, Hebe in HMS Pinafore, and Tessa in The Gondoliers; Annapolis Opera, also in the role of Pitti Sing; and Baltimore Opera, as Mrs. Nolan in The Medium. Ms. Davies has performed with the Lyric Opera of Cleveland as one of their Young Artists. She was a part of Baltimore Opera's educational program, and is currently a member of the educational team of the Lyric Opera Baltimore. In 2007, she was assistant to the director, Garnett Bruce, in Peabody Opera's Les Contes d'Hoffmann, directed the Old Maid and the Thief for Harbor Opera at the Walters Art Museum, and returned to Young Vic to assistant direct HMS Pinafore. In 2008, Ms. Davies was Assistant Producer of Puss in Boots at the Theatre Project, directed Jake Heggie's At the Statue of Venus at Harford Community College, and directed South Pacific for the Annapolis Chorale. Her most recent directing projects have been Man of La Mancha and The Fantasticks for Live Arts Maryland, an opera scenes program at Harford Community College, and At the Statue of Venus for Baltimore Lyric Opera at Artscape. Ms. Davies holds an honors degree in history from McGill University, Montreal, and a master's degree in Women's Studies from Oxford University.
