Ernest Liotti

Ernest LiottiErnest Liotti is a graduate of the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University where he was a piano student of Lillian Freundlich. Mr. Liotti is currently on the faculty of the Peabody Conservatory as an instructor of Opera Literature. He is the director of choral activities at Loyola College in Maryland as well as an instructor of music history and film studies. Mr. Liotti is a long standing faculty member of the the Road Scholar at Peabody program where he addresses over forty different subjects. He is the director of the DaCamera Singers, a sixteen voice professional chamber chorus, currently Vocal Ensemble in Residence at Loyola College. The group has released two CDs of live performances, “Opus Opera”, a recital of arias and ensembles, and “Culture and Tradition – The African Influence in Music”. 

Mr. Liotti has served as coach/conductor for the Peabody Institute directing Puccini’s “Suor Angelica” in 2000. He was director of the Northwood Presbyterian Choir in Silver Spring, Maryland and was associate director of the Washington Concert Singers. Mr. Liotti has adjudicated various choral festivals, commissioned and premiered numerous compositions by regional composers, organized and conducted concerts to benefit local non-profit organizations, and has served as a Music Project Evaluator for the United States Department of Education. 

In demand as a lecturer Mr. Liotti has traveled across the United States and Europe speaking to a variety of organizations including Bandeis University, The Johns Hopkins University, Friends of Tanglewood, The Spoleto Festival to name a few. Mr. Liotti lives in the historic Mount Vernon neighborhood in Baltimore Maryland. In addition to his numerous music activities he is a significant collector of American industrial design specifically the works of Gilbert Rohde. Pieces of his collection are featured in a new book, “Gilbert Rohde – Modern Design for Modern Living” by Phyllis Ross published by Yale Press.
