Faculty Chamber Concerts, Love and Let Love, and a 25th Anniversary

Peabody's Sylvia Adalman Chamber Series continues with two winter concerts featuring faculty artists. On Tuesday, Jan. 29, violinist Victor Danchenko will perform with his former student, Soovin Kim—who joined the Conservatory faculty last fall—and his sister, pianist Vera Danchenko-Stern. A student of the legendary David Oistrakh, Danchenko emigrated from the Soviet Union to Canada in 1977 and began teaching at Peabody in 1992. Then, on Sunday, Feb. 17, soprano Ah Young Hong and flutist Marina Piccinini will join an ensemble of strings and piano to perform works by Schubert, Zemlinsky, Schoenberg, and Ravel in a program titled Transfigured Night.

Starting, appropriately enough, on Valentine's Day, the Peabody Chamber Opera will return to Baltimore's Theatre Project to present four performances—Thursday to Saturday, Feb. 14-17—of Love and Let Love, a show that includes both cabaret-style love songs and Svadba, Ana Sokolovic's a cappella, all-female opera about a Serbian wedding celebration.

The Peabody Camerata, an ensemble formed to play music written in the 20th century, will give a free concert of works by Henry Brant, Conlon Nancarrow, Harry Partch, and founding conductor Gene Young on Saturday, Feb. 16, to celebrate the Camerata's 25th anniversary season. Young composed Silence—A Fable in honor of this milestone for the ensemble, which now has a repertoire extending into the 21st century.
