Policies and Procedures

Peabody Institute Regulations

Your group will be required to adhere to all Peabody Institute policies, regulations and guidelines, and all local, state and federal laws concerning health, safety and public order. Failure to comply with these regulations may result in forfeiture of the privileges of using Peabody Institute's facilities. These regulations include but are not limited to the following in Peabody Institute buildings and on Peabody Institute property.

Care of Room

No guest within a Peabody Institute Residence Hall may install equipment, make alterations, paint or make repairs. In order to protect walls, the use of scotch tape and other adhesives or tacks, nails, etc., is prohibited. Halogen lamps, electric frying pans, hotplates, microwave or any other electrical cooking devices are not allowed.

Care of Building

Alterations, signs, posters, etc., which affect the appearance of the buildings, inside or outside are prohibited (except areas designated for the posting of signs, notices, etc.) Report all necessary repairs to the Conference Services Office immediately. No objects shall be placed on the exterior ledge of a window.

Prohibited Acts

Possession of fireworks, setting fires, use or storage of dangerous chemicals, possession of weapons of any sort, illegal use of alcohol and drugs, and drug paraphernalia are prohibited. Violators are subject to immediate removal from The Peabody Institute by Campus Police or other law enforcement personnel.

Fire/Crime Prevention

The Peabody Institute does not assume responsibility for the loss of, or damage to personal property of conference participants through fire, theft, or other causes. Candles and incense are prohibited on campus. It is the resident’s responsibility to lock his or her door at all times. Smoke detectors have been installed in each room for fire protection. It is unlawful to tamper with this unit or any other fire safety equipment.

Radio, Television, and Stereo Equipment

The use of radio, television, and stereo equipment is permitted if played at a volume which will not be disturbing to those living nearby.

Pets

Pets are not permitted in Peabody Institute housing.

Motor Vehicle Regulations

The driving or parking of motor vehicles (including motorcycles and motor scooters) on paths and lawns is prohibited. All participants and their guests must abide by campus traffic and parking regulations.

Overnight Guests

If a participant wants a friend or family member to visit overnight, it must be approved by the Peabody Conference Services Coordinator. Accommodations for the friend or family member depend on space availability. The signature of the Conference Coordinator must be obtained before a space will be granted. There will be an additional charge to the conference.

Smoking

To provide a safe and healthy environment for faculty, staff, students, and visitors, The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University has adopted a smoke-free policy. 

Smoking is prohibited in the common areas of all residence halls, including (but not limited to) lounges, meeting rooms, cafeterias, hallways, lobbies, and restrooms.

Drugs and Alcohol

The illegal use of drugs and alcohol is prohibited on Peabody Institute property.

Fire Evacuation Plan and Instructions

We urge all guests to familiarize themselves with the fire evacuation plan and instructions in order to avoid injury or death, which can result from a fire. It is important upon arrival that you locate the exits nearest to your assigned room. A printed evacuation plan is posted on all guest room and classroom doors.  All guests must cooperate with the Smoking Is Prohibited rules in the common areas of all residence halls, including (but not limited to) lounges, meeting rooms, cafeterias, hallways, lobbies, and restrooms.

All fire situations, even a small contained fire, should be reported immediately to the Office of Conference Services at 410-234-4773 and or Campus Police at 410-234-4600.
