Cross-Registration

Peabody students wishing to take courses at Homewood

Students should complete an Interdivisional Registration Request form, acquire the necessary signatures, and submit it to the Peabody Registrar's Office, who will then complete the registration process in coordination with the Homewood Registrar's Office.

Note: Students should be sure they have completed any prerequisites before attempting to register for a specific course. Enrollment in classes may be limited due to class size or other factors.

Homewood students wishing to take courses at Peabody

Courses offered at Peabody fall into three general categories: classes, ensembles, and private lessons. Classes in music theory, ear-training, and keyboard studies, ensembles, and private lessons require placement exams and auditions, scheduled during Peabody's orientation week (late August/early September).

Peabody Classes

Homewood students wishing to enroll in Peabody classes should complete an Interdivisional Registration Request form, acquire the necessary signatures, and submit it to the Homewood Registrar's Office, who will then complete the registration process in coordination with the Peabody Registrar's Office.

Note: Students should be aware that Peabody courses in music theory, ear-training, and keyboard studies require placement exams, which are scheduled during Peabody's orientation week (late August/early September). Students will not be registered for these courses until they complete a placement exam. These courses, and courses in music history, conducting, computer music, and other areas of interest, are available on a space-available basis.

Peabody Ensembles

Homewood students wishing to enroll in Peabody ensembles should complete an Interdivisional Registration Request form, acquire the necessary signatures, and submit it to the Homewood Registrar's Office. Students should then contact Peabody's Ensemble Office to schedule a placement audition. Students will be registered for ensembles after rehearsals begin.

Note: Homewood students should be aware that Peabody's Ensemble Office maintains its own policies regarding ensemble placement. Ensemble auditions take place during Peabody's orientation week (late August/early September). Ensembles typically rehearse in the afternoons from 2:30-6:00 and maintain strict attendance policies. It is in the student's interests to contact the Ensemble Office with any questions before attempting to audition for Peabody's ensembles.

Private Lessons

Homewood students wishing to enroll in private lessons at Peabody should complete an Interdivisional Registration Request form, acquiring the necessary signatures, and submit it to the Homewood Registrar's Office, who will then complete the registration process in coordination with the Peabody Registrar's Office. Students will be contacted regarding auditions by e-mail or telephone. A fee is charged by Homewood's Business Office for each semester of enrollment in private lessons.

Students who are not accepted into the studio of a Conservatory faculty member may be referred to the Peabody Preparatory, which offers non-credit instruction and provides a discount to Johns Hopkins students.

Note: Enrollment in private lessons at the Conservatory is solely contingent upon the student being accepted into one of the applied faculty studios. It is in the student's interests to find a faculty member who will accept them into their studio before attempting to register for lessons.
