Departmental hearings will generally be 15 minutes in length.
First Year
Technique
- Scales: Major and minor (harmonic) to 4 sharps and flats.
- Studies:
Weissenborn: Complete Bassoon Method
Milde: Scale Studies
Repertoire
Any Baroque concerto or sonata.
Departmental Examination
Based on the above material.
Second Year
Technique
- Scales: All major, minor (harmonic, melodic), chromatic, and whole tone.
Arpeggios, major and minor. - Studies:
Kovar: 24 Daily Studies or Oubradous: Technical Exercises
Milde: Concert Studies Part I
Fundamentals of reed-making.
Repertoire
- Selected Paris Conservatory Concours Piece
- Bach: Suites for Violoncello, Nos. 1,2, or 3
- Weber: Concerto or Fantasy
Orchestral studies
Stadio: Difficult and Solo Passages for Bassoon

Third Year
Technique
- Scales: All major, minor, chromatic, and whole tone. Major scales in 3rds (to 4 sharps and flats). Arpeggios, major, minor, and diminished seventh.

Reed-making, continued.

- Hindemith: Sonata for Bassoon
- Mozart: Concerto (K.191)
- Saint-Saens: Sonata
Orchestral Studies
Continued.

Fourth Year
