Flute Requirements
Departmental hearings will generally be 15 minutes in length.
First Year
Technique
- All major and minor scales three octaves (C1 to D4)
- All major and minor arpeggios, at least two octaves
- Chromatic scale from B1 to D4
- Whole tone scales three octaves, starting on C1, and C sharp1
- Diminished arpeggios three octaves:
- C, E flat, G flat, A
- C sharp, E, G, A sharp
- D, F, A flat, C flat
- Thirds, as in Taffanel-Gaubert, exercise #6A, to be played from memory in all major, harmonic minor, and melodic minor keys
- Sixths, as in Taffanel-Gaubert, exercise #6B, to be played from memory in all major, harmonic minor, and melodic minor keys
Repertoire
- Etude - Select one: from J. Andersen Op. 41, Op. 33 or from other etudes of equal or greater difficulty.
- Three contrasting works from different styles and periods, including a major sonata, concerto or comparable work and a work written after 1940.
- Three orchestral excerpts

Etudes: Select one from J. Andersen Op. 15, Op. 30 or from other equal or more difficult etudes.
