  • Abel unaccompanied, (G major)
  • Marais: Suite
  • Tablature, (Lyra Viol) - pieces by Hume and others
  • Consort Repertoire

Departmental Examination

Third Year

Technique

  • Finish Simpson Divisions
  • Begin Marais "Folia" Variations
  • Begin Tenor/Treble viola da gamba

Repertoire

  • J.S. Bach: Gamba Sonata, (G major)
  • J.S. Bach: St. John Passion aria
  • CPE Bach: Sonata in C major
  • Marais: Suite

Performing:

  • Baroque Ensembles, Obbligato works, i.e. "Sonnerie,"
  • French Cantatas, Buxtehude Sonatas
  • Viol Consort and Renaissance Ensemble,
  • (pieces highlighting viol)

Departmental Examination

Fourth Year

  • Finish Marais "Folia" Variations
  • J.S. Bach: St. Matthew Passion arias

Repertoire

  • J.S. Bach: Gamba Sonata, D major or G minor
  • Telemann: Suite
  • Schenck Unaccompanied or Telemann Unaccompanied
  • Marais or other French Suite

Performing

Same as previous year, different repertoire.

Departmental Examination

Recital, 50-60 minutes of music including one unaccompanied piece, one chamber piece, (Viol obligato), one French suite.

NOTE: For all examinations, memorization is encouraged but not required.
