The Peabody Horn Studio is one of the most active and vibrant horn studios in the country. Led by Shawn Hagen, and Denise Tryon the studio is a wonderful balance of pedagogy, performing and real life audition instruction. They are also active performers and soloists.
Hagen is a member of The United States Army Band, “Pershing’s Own” and frequent performer with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, and the Washington Symphonic Brass.
Tryon is the fourth horn player for the Philadelphia Orchestra and an active chamber and solo artist. She along, with Detroit principal horn Karl Pituch, run the summer program “Audition Mode,” an audition seminar for professional hornists.
With this active real life influence, the Peabody Horn Studio gets the very best in instruction and exposure to many great performances.
Brass players at Peabody study and perform music representative of all periods and styles in the following ensembles: Peabody Symphony Orchestra, Peabody Concert Orchestra, Peabody Wind Ensemble, Peabody Camerata, Conductor’s Orchestra, and a wide variety of chamber groups coached by members of the faculty.
